Friday the 13th-Decision Shabbat
Hosted by: Samantha W. Brooklyn, NY

My Next Shabbat was a Decision Party, a time and place to announce a decision. It was a celebration of making decisions — some of my friends had just chosen which grad school to attend, to look for a new job, start a blog, read more novels, etc. As guests arrived I showed them a desk with a typewriter where they could record their decisions. Before serving the food, I asked two friends if they could lead the prayers, and they also talked a little about the meaning of Shabbat.  After dinner we took photos with a sign based on Shepard Fairey's Obama poster, but instead of HOPE it says CHALLAH. It was the middle of Obama's first 100 days and he was making important decisions just like us. However, on Shabbat instead of making Change we bake Challah.
